Determination of mammalian cell (strain HeLa) inhibition by an agar diffusion technic. II. Paper chromatographic methods.

چکیده
Paper chromatography has proved to be a powerful tool in an antibiotic screening program (1). It serves the following purposes: (a) it pro vides an early characterization of the antibiotic activity as new or old, (6) it determines whether single or multiple activities are present, and (c) it predicts the solubility characteristics of the activ ity and probable extraction behavior. Thus, at a very early stage, important information is made available to both the microbiologist and biochem ist which helps to determine interest in the anti biotic and to accelerate the studies leading to its isolation and purification. The search for antitumor agents in such fer mentation materials requires the same basic ap proach as does antibiotic screening. This report will describe one solution to such need: the use of mammalian cell bioautographs of antitumor agents isolated in crude or purified form from fer mentation liquors of actinomycetes and chromatographed on paper strips.

متن کاملComparison of Microbiological and High-Performance Liquid Chromatographic Methods for Determination of Clarithromycin Levels in Plasma
An agar well diffusion bioassay method for determination of clarithromycin in human plasma, using Micrococcus Luteus ATCC 9341 as the assay organism, was compared with a selective high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method with UV detection. Spiked plasma was used to prepare standard and control samples for both methods. The results of the bioassay analyses with spiked plasma samples...

متن کاملDetermination of PCR-ELISA Diagnostic Value in Comparison With Classical Methods and PCR to Detect Resistance to Methacillin
Background and Aims: High prevalence of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus isolates (MRSA) as well as the multi-drug resistance in this bacterium causes difficulties in the treatment of infections due to these bacteria. Hence, detection of MRSA isolates by rapid and accurate methods is necessary. PCR-ELISA is an accurate and molecular technique that is used for the detection of several...
